Psychiatry & Medication Management
When mental health conditions make it difficult to function, a person jeopardizes their well-being and relationships. A psychiatric evaluation and treatment plan (with or without prescription medication) can turn life around.
Initial Psychiatric Evaluation
Weston Psychiatric provides confidential, comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including a full mental health diagnostic assessment. Our psychiatric medical team screens patients for a variety of mental health conditions. These conditions include depression, anxiety, ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), bipolar disorder, autism spectrum disorders, and others. In addition to evaluating mental health, psychiatric evaluations also assess an individual’s overall physical health. Sometimes, medical conditions are related to mental health symptoms. Weston Psychiatric performs psychiatric evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults.
Psychiatric Evaluation Questions
Psychiatric evaluations involve an in-depth interview with a psychiatrist. Generally, an individual undergoing a psychiatric evaluation will be asked to:
- Describe unusual physical and psychiatric symptoms they’re experiencing
- Describe unusual behaviors and the details surrounding these behaviors
- Tell about their family history and personal history related to mental health
- Fill out a medical history form and describe their physical health
Holistic Mental Health Treatment Plans
After completing the evaluation, the psychiatric physician and/or nurse practitioner considers all of the elements of the evaluations and make a diagnosis. Next, they consult with the individual, parent, or family to determine a treatment plan to address short-term and long-term wellness goals. Psychiatric evaluations are the starting point for holistic mental health treatment. Treatment plans may include psychotherapy (also known as counseling or talk therapy), psychological testing, prescription medication, or other mental health services.
No Referral Needed for Psychiatric Evaluation
Referrals for psychiatric evaluations are welcome, but are not required. Weston Psychiatry providers are in-network providers for multiple health insurance plans. Patients may also qualify for out-of-network provider coverage. Weston Psychiatric’s intake coordinator can verify benefits and obtain any necessary authorization for mental health treatment.
Prescription Medication Management
Some psychiatric evaluations determine that a patient can benefit from prescription medication. Oftentimes, medication helps patients manage their symptoms so they can live healthier, happier lives. Weston Psychiatric’s nurse practitioner or psychiatric physician will work with patients to determine the appropriate prescription medication and dosage. They ensure that patients have a thorough understanding of their treatment plan and medications. Additionally, our psychiatric medical team will monitor and manage prescription medication usage. The clinicians create a medication-related action plan to achieve a positive outcome, while minimizing negative side effects and health risks. They monitor patients to ensure the prescription medication is working as it should. Additionally, they help identify cost-effective avenues for patients taking prescription medication.

Many individuals experiencing mental health conditions find that their symptoms improve with the right prescription medication. Weston Psychiatric prescribes and monitors prescription medication use for the following mental health conditions and others:
